Fighting fire with love

James Yap will fight for marriage. . .

This is my second and last post for this issue between presidential sibling, Kris Aquino and basketball star, James Yap, and the test of their marriage. Right off the bat, I want to commend Mr. Yap's pronouncements to fight for his marriage. However, I do want to caution him that fighting for this marriage does not just include repentance over his sin to his wife or whatever Ms. Aquino is in protest about. 'Cause if she has reason to believe that he caused this rift (and he did twice before) then he should do WHATEVER it takes to win them back. If Mr. Yap was caught for the third time by Ms. Aquino (or the nth time) to be unfaithful then he should do more than just texting her and close to nagging her about it. He should give her time. In fact, he should do it in prayer. If I were him, I would go down on my knees and ask God's help. This is beyond repair (there's always hope, but by his standard - it's T-O-U-G-H) if he caused this rift.

The only thing that bothers me is the cause of this trouble. Admittedly, if this were my neighbor's life - I wouldn't probably hear of it. But since they're public personalities, my concern now are the people who are intently following their story. Ms. Aquino is extremely popular in this nation and what she does is exported into the hearts and minds of women - especially the young ones who are reading their account.

That's why I'm particularly elated to know that James is fighting for it. And since everyone knows about their story, Mr. Yap can even do the new generation a favor by being more responsible and to use their public life to help the young ones value women, value their manhood, and to value their family life.

But yeah, he can't get that from friends or family. He needs to get it from the ultimate source. Like it or not, he should get it from God. Only God can kill the fire with the kind of love only He can produce out of Mr. Yap.

Modern day kindness

What would you do to help out people stranded in countries because of a natural disaster? Use the web. CNN published this story, "Web links strangers helping travelers," today and instead of highlighting the benefits of the web and how it helped people I wanted to highlight the kindness of people cited in this story.

For me, it is not about technology that makes this story remarkable for twitter, Facebook, Yahoo! Messenger are just tools. It is the kindness show by people in this modern age that makes this significant. Men and Women extending kindness to perfect strangers takes a lot of trust in an age of distrust and deceit. And we learn to extend goodness not so much from teachers, friends, and family members. For they only learned it from somebody else too. Kindness is learned from the God and you can learn more from Him through the bible.

This is what I learned from God in teaching the Israelites about kindness:
"'If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. Do not take interest of any kind from him, but fear your God, so that your countryman may continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.'" Ref: Leviticus 25:35-38 (NIV)

Golfer lost a title, won respect all over the world

If you haven't heard of John Davis, you may want to consider him a "hero" of sorts for just doing the right thing - honesty. In a much publicized sport of golf, a little-known golfer who is a stroke away from stepping into the professional world of this sport called a penalty on himself and cost him his chance to earn it this year. Read the story and how profound his character was and how he won the hearts of many people around the world. I cheer people who are like this and he helped me remember that it pays to be honest. He may have lost something but he gained a lot for his courage to do the right thing.

"I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live." (Job 27:6)
